Welcome to V K Associates, where we believe in honoring cultural traditions and fostering a sense of unity among our employees. One such occasion that holds a special significance for us is the festival of Onam. Originating from the picturesque state of Kerala in South India, Onam is not just a festival; it’s a celebration of heritage, togetherness, and abundance. Last year, we organized a series of vibrant Onam programs for our employees, immersing ourselves in the colors, flavors, and traditions of this joyous festival. Join us as we recount the memorable moments and cherished experiences that made our Onam celebrations in 2023 truly special.

Poovidal, also known as Thiruvonam or Onam day, holds a special significance in the grand celebration of Onam. It marks the culmination of the ten-day festival and is the most awaited day among Keralites worldwide. Poovidal is the day when families come together to partake in various rituals, feasts, and festivities, creating cherished memories that last a lifetime.

The term “Poovidal” translates to “new attire” or “flower-strewn,” symbolizing the renewal of life and the vibrant colors that adorn Kerala during this auspicious occasion. On Poovidal morning, households across Kerala wake up early to deck their courtyards with intricate flower carpets, known as Athapookalam, as a gesture of welcome to the legendary King Mahabali.

The day begins with traditional rituals and prayers, where families gather to offer gratitude and seek blessings for prosperity and abundance. People dress in their finest attire, adorning themselves with fragrant flowers, jewelry, and accessories, adding to the festive ambiance. The womenfolk often wear the traditional Kerala attire of Kasavu sarees or set mundus, while men don the traditional Mundu and shirt.
